Classic dishes from Nayarit

The gastronomy of Nayarit is one of the delights of our country with its essence in the sea, you can enjoy delicacies for all tastes with simple ingredients and a lot of dedication. Seafood, fruits of the land and meat are part of this delicious traditional cuisine.

These are the typical dishes of Nayarit:


  1. Zarandeado Fish: The traditional recipe calls for red snapper fish, butterfly cut and spread with a mixture of onion, chili and lemon. It is cooked over a direct fire of firewood from the mangrove tree, which gives it a very characteristic flavor.

  2. Fish ceviche: One of the culinary creations of the typical Nayarit food that emerged from the sea. It is a very refreshing dish that is consumed in much of the state.

  3. Tlaxtihuilli: Originally from the mythical island of Mexcaltitán, one of the legendary Magical Towns of Nayarit, in which corn and shrimp are used. The nixtamalized dough is used to prepare an atole to which dried and ground shrimp will be added, seasoned with tequesquite salt, guajillo and serrano chilies.

  4. Pork beans: One of the typical dishes of Nayarit, preferred for its texture and flavor, where ancestral ingredients are mixed with those of the conquest.

  5. Oyster soup: Broth prepared with cilantro, bay leaves and oregano to which the raw oysters are added, then they are boiled until they are firm.
